Etex Building Performance wins Best Manufacturing Project in Totara Awards 2020

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

We are thrilled to announce that Etex Building Performance has won the Best Manufacturing Project award in the Totara Awards 2020.

Etex Building Performance initially worked with Totara Alliance Partner Chambury Learning Solutions to start from scratch with a learning management system (LMS) to replace their basic spreadsheet-based learning records.

However, in 2020, COVID-19 and the UK’s national lockdown meant that Etex Building Performance needed to keep 500 furloughed employees engaged, informed and reassured about pandemic developments, as well as equipping them with the skills to learn off-site throughout the lockdown.

Etex was chosen as the winning manufacturing project because of the speed at which Etex Building Performance adapted to challenging circumstances. The ‘Learning Hub’ was rebranded as the ‘Learning & Communication Hub’, and the content was updated in a matter of days to include resources such as CEO updates, wellbeing content, quizzes and a chat facility to enable employees to stay in touch at a difficult time.

The LMS saw a staggering 284% increase in usage over the pandemic as staff sought ways to stay informed and connected.

Their core L&D processes make use of certifications, programmes and audiences within Totara Learn to assist the small learning team in managing data and users as easily as possible. The Totara Learn solution also integrates with Office 365 for single sign-on, helping to reduce barriers to learning for a workforce with relatively low IT literacy.

Genevieve Tofield, Talent and Development Manager at Etex says;

I am absolutely over the moon about the recognition the site has had. We have always aimed to meet the needs of our audience rather than drive our own Learning & Development agenda and I think that has driven the success of the site. I am incredibly grateful for the support that #ChamburyLS have provided to help us to achieve our aims, and the continued business partnering as we look to evolve and develop the site on an ongoing basis. The Totara platform is easy to use and really allows us to adapt quickly, involving our people along the way to create content that is relevant. The award has really motivated us to keep up the efforts and know that we are heading in the right direction!

As a winner, Etex Building Performance will receive a waka (a Māori canoe) made from genuine reclaimed Totara wood.

Chambury Learning Solutions, Etex Building Performance’s Totara Partner, specialises in assisting organisations in high-consequence industries, such as healthcare and manufacturing.

This Totara Award joins ChamburyLS's previous Award Winning customers including Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2019, Kent & Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust in 2018, Virgin Care in 2016, and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust in 2015.

Richard Chambury said;

This award shows not only the level of support from my team to Etex, but also the true partnership approach with each customer making them the most important part of their own LMS journey. I look forward to the ongoing relationship with Etex UK and am truly proud that my team has received [another] Totara Best Project Award for their work with Etex in 2020. I spoke with Genevieve at Etex yesterday evening and she is equally delighted. Well done all.

Lars Hyland, Chief Learning Officer at Totara and a lead judge of the 2020 Totara Awards adds;

We are hugely proud of how our partners and customers have used the flexibility of Totara to support their people and communities through an unprecedented period of change and uncertainty brought on by the pandemic. Adaptability is a critical characteristic of successful organisations and they are all well placed to respond positively going forward. These awards recognise the very best of the submissions we received in terms of success, innovation and positive business/societal impact. My congratulations to the teams at Etex Building Performance and Chambury Learning Solutions for their win.
