Totara Academy. Where to start. The top 5 courses.

Updated: Jan 6, 2021

Following on from last weeks blog entry about the Totara Academy, if you’re brand new to Totara or keen to brush up on your knowledge of the features and functionality in your platform, where should you start?

Read on to discover five of our the popular Totara Academy courses, and what they’ll teach you…

1. Totara Learn for beginners

It should come as no surprise that our Totara Learn for beginners course takes the number one spot. If you’re new to Totara Learn, this is your must-complete course for an overview of everything you can do with your new learning management system. This will get you up and running in just two hours with a look at the site navigation, setting up user profiles, adding courses and adding users, making it super quick to get started.

2. Programs and certifications

Programs and certifications help us combine courses into defined pathways, ensuring learners stay on track with their learning. In less than two hours, this course will teach you how to create programs and certifications, create initial and recertification pathways and assign audiences and organizations, making it super easy for you to guide your learners through your content.

3. Learning plans

Learning plans, similarly to programs, allow to define a pathway through your learning, including the relevant competencies, training and objectives. If you’re looking to create learning plans, no matter how simple or complex, this course will show you how to link courses, competencies, objectives and programs to your learning plans, as well as adding evidence to stay on top of your learners’ activities.

4. User data management

The EU’s introduction of GDPR in 2018 fueled a huge spike in interest in data protection policies, and organizations are understandably keen to ensure that their learning platforms comply with their local regulations. Our user data management course demonstrates how to set up a site policy and create export and purge types to copy and remove user data from your system to make sure your LMS supports compliance.

5. Course and categories

Once you have your Totara Learn platform configured how you want it, you’ll want to start adding courses for your learners. But it’s important that your content is well organized, and that learners can easily find what they’re looking for within your LMS structure. This course looks at how you can set up and manage course categories, add courses, add activities to your courses and enroll users in a course.

But of course, this really is the tip of the iceberg!

The Totara Academy team is constantly working on new courses to help you make the most of your Totara Learn platform, covering everything from open badges to localisation and even plugins and advanced features, so there really is something for everyone, whether you’re a total newcomer or already familiar with the system.

They have also put together several comprehensive learning programs to give you an in-depth insight into your Totara platform. Our course creator program helps you create courses in Totara Learn, the performance management site administrator program helps you manage performance in Totara Learn and the Totara Learn site administrator program gives you all the skills you need to administrate your LMS.
